VLISCO Lures With New Campaign Collection ‘SPLENDEUR’

This is a beautiful one from VLISCO – for the afro-centric diva who is sophisticated, feminine and loves to show the multi-faceted sides of her personality through her fashion choices.

With a splash of the grandiose and a pinch of drama, VLISCO lures us in again with their gorgeous wax print design and a divaliciously splendid fashion collabo* with Nigerian fashion designer Lanre da Silva. Lanre’s eponymous style oozes great artistry and a creative craftsmanship with her use and execution of embellishments.

Why we write this…We read the words WIN & FREE below. Read on and share  X.

Take to the stage and shine

Welcome to Vlisco’s new collection ‘Splendeur’ – layer after layer of opulence, grandeur and feminine drama. With Vlisco’s new season’s fabric collection, women can become a vision of sophistication and pure splendour.

The Splendeur Campaign. This season Vlisco speaks to every woman who wants to dress like a glamorous movie star. Whether she’s going to a ball, a party or just a romantic dinner, she will dazzle in the limelight. ‘Splendeur’ gives women the freedom to create an outfit that says so much about their glamorous spirit – encouraging them to make a dramatic entrance.

Embellished fashion inspiration. Extravagant embellishment is the spark for so many of Vlisco’s sartorial fashion inspirations this season. There are little sequins, pearlescent beads and hand-sculpted jewellery, created by cutting out the ornamental forms in their fabrics – all of which enhance, empower and compliment the fabrics.

Colour couture. The rich colours and bohemian nature of the Art Deco era was a key inspiration for Vlisco’s colour house this season, together with the fascinating properties of velvet and opulent jewels. The richness, confidence and beauty of each have been skilfully distilled into every design.

Collaboration with Lanre da Silva. As a famous fashion designer in Nigeria and beyond, Lanre’s style is rich in femininity and she uses a multitude of embellishments –the perfect match for this season’s ’Splendeur’ concept. It’s why Vlisco invited her to craft a glamorous garment for the campaign from their shimmering gold Limited Edition fabric. She also designed an unforgettable festive dress that people can win.

Vlisco embellishments for free. With two fabrics of six yards, one of Limited Edition, clients will receive two Vlisco embellishments for free. Each one is beautifully hand-crafted by Vlisco and is an interpretation of the ornaments found in their fabrics – these embellishments can be used on a garment for added ‘Splendeur’ and grace. But that’s not all, the lucky woman with the winning scratch card (exclusively in Vlisco Boutiques, on www.vlisco.com/shop and participating points of sale from 18th November) will win the dress designed by Lanre da Silva and have it tailor-made for a perfect fit.

2 and 4 yard fabrics. These shorter lengths make it really easy for women to mix and match fabrics to create truly individual fashion statements. They’re available in 2 yards, 4 yards and pre-packs and can only be purchased from Vlisco Boutiques and at www.vlisco.com/shop.

A history worthy of remembrance. Since 1846, Vlisco has created striking textiles influencing the fashion landscape in West and Central Africa. These fabrics reflect true Dutch craftsmanship and are still known as ‘Hollandais’, from the French word for ‘Dutch’. In fact, Vlisco is the only brand creating authentic Dutch Wax fabrics recognised by their eye-catching design, vibrant colours and unique wax craquelé.

Vlisco, the true original, since 1846.

Jennifer Lopez & Casper Smart Split…

Say it ain’t so! This was one cougar relationship we believed would go the distance.

J-Lo (44) and toy boy boyfriend Casper Smart (27)  have called it a day on their two and half year relationship. According to celebrity news site TMZ.com, apparently the couple had broken up two months ago, but the news has only come to light. A source close to the couple told TMZ.com that: “They actually split two months ago, but kept it on the down-low, they’re still friendly but simply grew apart.”

J-Lo and Casper’s relationship has been in the media lately, with rumours circulating that Casper had a liaison (sexting) with a transsexual. Sources close to Casper say “Casper has been a single guy and can text or see whoever he wants, but the idea that he was knowingly texting a transsexual is laughable”.

As is the norm in celebrity land, J-Lo and Casper have vowed to remain friends and if recent sighting of the pair who broke up two months ago as the left uber hot spot Craig in West Hollywood is anything to go by, they are staying true to their words.

I am pleased to be chosen as one of the key fashion presenters during this showcase. explains Kimma Wreh of TeKay Designs.  I create the type of African-inspired dresses and ethnic bridal gowns that many people dont get to see.  Dallas Texas is recognized as the ninth-largest city and a highly culturally diverse city in the U.S.  This fashion platform provided the Dallas community an opportunity to experience alternative fashion styles that are accessible here in Texas. Thats why this showcase is so important!  Fashion design and styling is a good example of how people can generate the best ideas when we embrace our cultural differences.

(City of Dallas), Lee McKinney (Assistant Director, office of Economic Development, City of Dallas), Honorable Abike Dabiri Erewa (Chairman, Diaspora committee and Federal House of Representatives in Nigeria), Ime Udo (member National Council for Arts and Culture, in Nigeria), Bob Brunner (Vice President – Arik Air Int’l), Eeefy Ike (Int’l Motivational Speaker and Fashion Designer), Regina Onyeibe (The City of Dallas, Africa liaison officer), and Chinwe Isaac (Nigerian Actress and Film Producer).

African Lions Rising

With delegates from across Africa in attendance, the Africa Lions Rising event which was held at the HoneyWell Auditorium, Lagos Business School for the Africa Business Conference proved that the private sector growth in Africa is an arm of the economy that could propel and enhance Intra-African Trade.

The event facilitated a great networking hub where private, businesses, senior public sector representatives and academia were able to forge partnerships to scale their current operations across the continent and shape the Africa of present and beyond.

This year’s event shed light on key issues and opportunities in Africa’s Manufacturing, Energy, Agri-Business, Fashion, ICT, Media & Entertainment and Solid Mineral sectors.

Keynote speaker, Rod Glover Blondin, renowned Economist and Advisor to Africa Exchange Holdings, spoke about trading and creating value across Africa, he said; “African businesses need to put in both economic and social prosperity – Africapitalism. We need to put in a sustainability index, to be a part of social capitalism and do our business with integrity; all these pay off in the end”.

He went on to add; “As private sector proponents, we need to actively voice our concerns, put forward solutions and suggestions, work with the public sector (not for them) and do not fight corruption with corruption”.

Actress Genevieve Nnaji

Actress Genevieve Nnaji, Audu Maikori of Chocolate City Records and Sam Onyemelukwe of Trace TV were also present to shed light on how the booming entertainment industry was helping to grow the African economy.

The second instalment of African Lions Rising proves that enhancing Intra-African Trade via private sector growth  may be the most viable way for Africa to shed the third world economy tag.

“A decade ago, Africa resembled the Asia of the 1960s, a jumble of undemocratic regimes, broken by conflict and poverty, with few prospects for progress. Today the story is different, Africa is one of the fastest-growing continents on Earth!” ~ Unknown
