You Know You've Made It When LA Reid Comes Calling & You Get Compared To One Of The Best Girl Groups Of All Time

I decide to start this hook-up by asking the girls about their project No Red Lights mix tape - which shook up the music scene with a massive Roc Stea’D bang, and get their reactions to the positive response it received. And their reaction to my accent, I must admit - got me feeling like quite a stud. Britney starts by saying “I am enthralled by your accent (laughs). The mix tape is music for everybody and it is aimed at a wide audience. The sound is very diverse you have a rapper and singer I am very fortunate to have an amazing group mate who is also a great vocalist from the RnB side.”

From the start of the interview I get a real feeling of unity and talent. These are no ordinary girls -they are out to make an impact. Roc Stea’D ooze confidence and know when it’s time to be serious and but by the looks of it, I am tapping into their cool playful sides. Roc’ on I say!

They have been working on the mix tape for three years and are about to make a big name for themselves. With this being their first big project, a lot of time and effort has gone into making this mix tape. People are now getting to know who Roc Stea’D are, and from touring and working tirelessly around the clock – things are starting to come together for them. As is infamously known amongst musical groups, I wanted to know if there is any friction within the group.

[Jessica] “It’s been 6 years now - a very long road and we have a great personal relationship and respect for one another, which helps even more towards the business end of things. I respect Britney’s decision and she respects mine. This is my sister and I love her. But we have been through so much together.” With this response, I could not help but think of manufactured talent show band members and what they could learn from the girls. I was also curious to find out how their style evolved – which they found hilarious.

“It was us! Everything is great as we are blessed to be who we are in the group I [Jessica] don’t have to pretend to be someone I’m not and neither does Britney . I truly believe that is what makes us unique.” Watching their energetic and packed with ‘tude’ [attitude] performances, it is easy to see how true that statement was. Their routines are so different from the others groups that are around, so I got them to tell me how this came about.

“It’s all really organic, everything we do - we have to feel that’s its real. We are naturally energiser bunnies - jumping around and acting crazy (both laugh). We do have a choreographer who is amazing, his name is Justin Fisher - he is like our creative soul mate and we collaborate a lot with him. We could be up until 4am just brain storming and that’s the good thing when you meet people you can work and connect with like that. But how we are on stage is how we are in real life.” When one watches the girls perform, you’ll quickly realise that their moves match their vocals - which is refreshing to see. They definitely give 100% in everything they do and must surely have constant headaches from all that energetic performances? (More laughter) “.. yeah we rock out on stage, we just like to rock it’s what we do.”

Our chat got more interesting when I mentioned a meeting they had with LA Reid, which made our first hook-up impossible. I wanted to find out how that went. “We actually met with a couple of people but we are trying to make the right moves and taking every step to make sure we make the most of our dreams. The mix tape has been well received and the feedback has been overwhelming and we are so grateful for that, it also inspires us to want to keep up the hard work.”

Comparisons to TLC would not go amiss – as many have expressed the same complimentary thoughts. “We wouldn’t say we are copying it but it’s great to be compared as they are one of the biggest selling girl groups of all time. We accept it with open arms as we have a lot of respect for them, but at the same time we think it’s more about the energy but we see it as a blessing.”

It was a real pleasure to get up close and personal with Roc Stea’D. They are fizzing with positive energy and creativity - watch this space, Roc Stea’D really do mean business. Swagger, talent, determination and truck loads of positive energy - they are definitely worth their weight in musical gold, and have all the tools to take a very competitive music industry by storm.
